Dr. Leith Banney

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Banney brings a wealth of dermatology expertise shaped by advanced training across Australia and the UK, including renowned institutions in Edinburgh, Cambridge, and Brisbane.

She has a long-standing passion for improving access to specialist care in regional communities. While based in Cairns, Dr. Banney was the only dermatologist servicing patients north of Townsville for three years — a testament to her dedication and impact. Today, as Lead Dermatologist at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Dr. Banney continues to lead from the front, driving innovation through research and multidisciplinary collaboration. She was instrumental in launching the hospital’s first skin cancer MDT and dermatopathology meetings.

Dr. Banney is also a mentor and educator - she has served as Head of Dermatology at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Cairns Hospital, and leads research and teaching as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Griffith University’s School of Medicine.

Dr. Banney’s areas of expertise include general dermatology, complex medical dermatology, biologic therapies, teledermatology, and high-risk skin cancer care.
